Places to Eat Drink & Stay in Sandy
The Sir William Peel Based in the High Street, immediately opposite St Swithun's Church, this is one of Sandy's original pubs, renamed a few years ago, after Captain Sir William Peel VC, who apart from distinguished military service, built the Sandy to Potton Railway. (Sadly, long closed and track torn up). The original beer-house, was opened in 1838, named the Lord Nelson, thought to be after one of our other great British heroes but probably because in previous times, the pub was run by the Nelson family. The pub has been through a number of brewery ownerships, including Flowers, Whitbread and Everards, currently belonging to a local company, Englishe Inns.
Bar meals and snacks are served, and there is a small patio area to the rear. |
